Monica Soto-Gil

MONICA SOTO-GIL -Mezzo-soprano – her most recent performance was the role of Rosina in the 2011 Maryland Opera Studio’s production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia.  She also has performed the roles of Paula in Catan’s Florencia en el Amazonas, Dido in Dido and Aeneas, covered the role of Marva Trotter in the world premiere of Shadowboxer, and sung in scenes from Anna Bolena (Giovanna), Rigoletto (Maddalena), Albert Herring (Florence), Le Nozze di Figaro (Cherubino), and Orpheo ed Eurydice (Orfeo).  In addition, she has sung as a soloist in Jordan Hall, The Cornerstone Arts Center, the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, and the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland.
A native of San Diego, California, Ms. Soto-Gil received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance degree from the New England Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of the late Edward Zambara.  She is in her final year as a member of the University of Maryland’s Opera Studio, where she studies with Delores Ziegler, and from which she will graduate with her Master of Music degree in May 2011.
